BICAS Project

2025-08-01

The Building Inclusive and Sustainable Growth Capacity of Civil Society Organizations (BICAS) Project was implemented from 15 February 2016 to 14 January 2018 in Budhiganga and Triveni Municipalities of Bajura District with financial and technical support from the European Union (EU) through Practical Action. The project aimed to enhance the capacity of civil society organizations (CSOs), forest user groups, and local communities to promote inclusive and sustainable growth in the agriculture and forest sectors. With a total budget of NPR 26,004,011, the project directly benefited 2,756 households and 6 Forest User Group Committees (FUGCs).

The project focused on strengthening community-based institutions, especially those involved in agriculture, forestry, and local economic development. It emphasized climate change adaptation, disaster risk reduction (DRR), and market-based approaches to promote economic activities that are both environmentally sustainable and socially inclusive. Special attention was given to empowering women and youth by enhancing their technical skills in on-farm and off-farm enterprises, improving access to markets, and supporting entrepreneurship.

Through various trainings, exposure visits, and community mobilization efforts, the BICAS project contributed to increasing household income, improving food security, and building resilience in marginalized communities. It also supported the integration of climate-smart agriculture and sustainable forest management practices. Overall, the BICAS project played a vital role in laying the foundation for long-term socio-economic development by fostering inclusive growth and strengthening the role of CSOs and user groups in local development.
